Annual Services
To maximise potential occupancy, the service component of the owl boxes and bat boxes in a project of this nature is essential. The service should be undertaken on an annual basis before the breeding the season to ensure that the boxes are suitable for owls and bats to use.
At the owl box service, our teams check that the boxes are still structurally sound, collect owl pellets, replenish the gravel substrate and re-varnish the owl boxes to ensure a further year’s protection against the elements as well as bee-proofing them.
Bat houses require an annual service to prevent deterioration which will in time render them uninhabitable for bats. The service entails the revarnishing, provision of a bee treatment, checking for occupancy and fixing or replacing boxes which show signs of wear.
Please browse through our FAQs here on the Owl Box Project which explains the importance of the service or listen to our voice note here.
The service of the bat boxes should also be undertaken on annually otherwise they deteriorate and in time become uninhabitable for bats using them or wishing to use them. The service entails the revarnishing, provision of a bee treatment, checking for occupancy and fixing or replacing boxes which show signs of wear.

These services are scheduled prior to the breeding season. Please feel free to contact EcoSolutions if you have any queries regarding this project, or if you wish to schedule a maintenance appointment.
